Subin Bae (South Korea)
Subin Bae (b. 2002) is a designer and artist based in South Korea, whose practice focuses on the relationships between different materials and the sensory tensions that arise from their interaction.
She experiments by borrowing the properties and textures of diverse materials to create a sense of estrangement, crossing the boundaries between them. By applying pressure or altering the edges of wood, metal, and other materials, she encourages a renewed perception of their inherent qualities.
Bae also explores fundamental phenomena, such as the effects of fire or physical limits, integrating these experiments into her work to express her unique perspective.
As a result, viewers experience each material not from a single point of view but through multiple angles and sensations, encountering new visual experiences within unfamiliar and paradoxical orders.
